It’s rare when an athlete is universally respected by nearly everyone involved in the game. Joe Sakic was one of those rare gems. There were many reasons why Sakic was so respected around the NHL. He carried himself with class and professionalism. He respected the opponent and the game. He didn’t trash talk. He led by example on and off the ice. He served as a mentor to younger teammates just coming into the league. He wanted to win and win the right way. And one of the top reasons was his singular focus on the ice. Like in this image of Sakic in a Colorado Avalanche jersey, he was always focused on the next play or shift to see what he could do to help his team win. Focus was one of the many reasons why he was an easy selection for the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2012 and was inducted into the Canada Sports Hall of Fame the following year.
