Description
Stephen Curry and Steve Kerr’s legacies in the NBA will forever be linked together. Curry, now the all-time record holder in 3-point shots made, saw his game elevate even more when Kerr, the NBA’s all-time 3-point percentage record holder, took over as the Golden State Warriors head coach. After many years of missing the playoffs, the Warriors took Curry with the seventh pick in the 2009 NBA Draft to help reverse their fortunes. The point guard out of Davidson College immediately showed he belonged in the league and continued to improve as the team around him improved and started to make playoff appearances. Golden State truly turned a corner when they hired Kerr before the 2014-15 season and the dynasty was about to begin. In Kerr’s first season, the team had a league-best 67-15 record while Curry broke his own single-season record with 286 three-pointers made, on his way to his first MVP. In an NBA Finals matchup against the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Warriors won their first championship since 1975. New records were broken in 2015-16 as Curry blew past his previous record with 402 three-pointers to help earn his second consecutive MVP award and Golden State went 73-9, the best record in NBA history. Although they came up short in the NBA Finals, the Warriors won the next two championships, as well as another in 2022. Curry and Kerr make one of the most successful player and coach duos of all time and helped change the trajectory of the Golden State Warriors franchise.
