The plan to build Cleveland back into a championship contender is two-fold. It won’t happen with just youth as key veteran players like Kevin Love a five-time All-Star and one of the key components to the team’s lone championship in 2016 will remain to provide scoring, experienced defense and key leadership. The main driving force is building through the draft, which they’ve done with a few outstanding picks in the post-LeBron era. Darius Garland came aboard when he was selected with the fifth overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, and the outlook for an immediate impactful tandem of Garland to Love is bright. Both players are extremely accurate from outside the paint, giving the Cavaliers a handful of deep threats who can pop and shoot or create their own long distance shot off the dribble.
