Coming into the 1985-86 season Dominique Wilkins had already established himself as one of the NBA’s fastest rising young stars. Wilkins would win the 1985 slam dunk contest and finish the 1984-85 season with a 27.4 scoring average, good for sixth in the NBA. While the 1984-85 season was impressive, Wilkins turned up his play another level the following season. In the 1985-86 season Wilkins would finish with a scoring average of 30.3 points per game en route to winning the league scoring title. Wilkins would make his first all-star game appearance in the 1986 All-Star Game and would rank among the Hawks’ leaders in rebounding (7.9 rpg), steals (138), and free-throw percentage (.818). Wilkins was just as good for the Hawks in the playoffs averaging 28.6 points per game in his nine games played in the 1985-86 postseason.
