The Winnipeg Jets gave Teemu Selanne his first opportunity to showcase his talents at the highest possible level, and the right winger rewarded the city and franchise with some amazing performances in his three and a half seasons there, including breaking Mike Bossy’s rookie goal-scoring record in his Calder Memorial Trophy-winning season of 1992-93. So when Selanne returned to Winnipeg in his final NHL season on 10/6/13, he was a received with a welcome fit for a king. A sellout crowd of 15,004 gave him a standing ovation as he stood on the Anaheim blue line before the game, as the image here emotionally shows. The crowd repeated the sign of respect as the night came to a conclusion. Manitoba’s capital gave Selanne the parting appearance he deserved in his original NHL city. When Teemu Selanne made his NHL debut in the 1992-93 season, the league was filled with top-level goal-scorers, including eventual Hall of Famers Mario Lemieux, Luc Robitaille, Pavel Bure, Steve Yzerman and Brett Hull. Selanne scored more goals than all of them. He put the puck in the net 76 times to tie for the league lead. He would go on to lead the NHL in goals twice more in his brilliant career. The right winger finished his career with 684 goals, good for 11th on the all-time list. The team he played against most was the Los Angeles Kings. He found the back of the net 52 times against the Kings, one of them pictured from above here. Not simply a goal-scorer, Selanne finished his career with 773 assists to give him 1,457 points in 1,451 games, 119 of them against the Kings. With tremendous success of the NHL Winter Classic and NHL Heritage Classic outdoor games, the league staged the NHL Stadium Series in the 2013-14 season. In one of the four games, the Los Angeles Kings took on the Anaheim Ducks on 1/25/14 in front of 54,099 fans at Dodger Stadium. The Ducks came away victorious in a 3-0 shutout. In the first period, Ducks legend Teemu Selanne assisted on Matt Beleskey’s goal. It was the 21st and final NHL season of what will surely be a Hall of Fame career. He was selected to 10 All-Star Games in a career that saw him finish in the top 20 in many offensive categories, including goals (11th), points (15th) and game-winning goals (third).
